Just an hour of drive northwest of the largest city of South Africa, Johannesburg, will take you to the Sterkfontain Caves. The Sterkfontain Caves are a complex of limestone caves and were declared World Heritage Site for the numerous finds of the early hominid remains that have been found there over the last few decades and are essential for our knowledge of the origin and evolution of humanity.
If you arrive to the site until 1pm you can take advantage of the combination ticket of Sterkfontein Caves and Maropeng, the award-winning interpretation centre which is just few miles away and offers highly interactive exhibitions of human evolution, underground boat ride and display of the original fossils.
