There is probably no one who would depart from India without visiting Taj Mahal and neither should you.
The stunning mausoleum which was built around 1648 for Mumtaz Mahal, wife of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan is built entirely of white marble and is also inscribed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1983 .
Taj Mahal is located in Agra in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, about 200 kilometers south from the Indian capital New Delhi. You can get there by air, train or bus. The fastest way to reach Agra from New Delhi is by taking a flight which lasts about 40 minutes, while the fasted train takes about two hours. However, in late December or early January your travel to Agra will take more time because of the fog season. Also remember that Taj Mahal is a very popular tourist destination so if you want to avoid crowds it is best if you arrive there very early. Besides that keep in mind that Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays.
